To those of you yelling at Maine

Yeah it sucks, but I honestly wasn’t that surprised.

Did Obama help at all? No. Despite his continued reassurances that he’s all for faggotry, he didn’t breathe one word about the issue. He was all about trying to raise the already sunken ships of NJ and VA governor races which have historically always been the opposite party of that in the white house.

And national LGBTQ rights groups didn’t give nearly as much funding or resources as Maine groups needed. That was a consistent complaint.

So no national support for marriage equality. But then of course there was massive opposition to it on a national level. Even though Maine as a state was all for gay marriage.

So really, you should be pissed off at the national theater in which this issue played out. The Catholic Church and the National Organization for Marriage spent nearly illegal amounts of funds to scare the people of Maine and tarnish the principle of equality as something evil. Most of their arguments came from religious motivation anyway.

You should be mad that organizations from other states are allowed to influence the politics of a state so far removed from them and solely for a national political agenda. They had no real concern for marriage in Maine. So yeah, instead of saying “Fuck Maine”, I’m saying “Fuck religion and fuck bigoted marketing”
