honestly.
when the women fought for their rights, did they bring mops, brooms, dustpans, kitchen sinks, sud buckets, wachine machines, wash boards, ironing boards, and sewing machines with them?
when the blacks fought for their rights, did they bring a cotton gin, straw hat, overalls, berry picking bucket, their master’s children with them?
NO. they came as normal, everyday people, fighting to have the same rights as normal, everyday people.
so if the gay community wants those same rights, stop acting like the stereotype. put on some cloths, leave the angel wings at home, don’t bedazzle your face, stop the dancing and grinding, and then maybe, just maybe someone might actually take you seriously.
this isn’t the thanksgiving day parade, it’s a march. if you want the same rights as everybody else, prove that you can be just as in control and respectful as others have been. i’m not saying change who you are, but just shut up and march. stop making it a big flaming production and take it seriously.
have a little self-respect.
It’s arguments like this which I hate. Some self-loathing fag sees gays who are truly ok with who they are, and they react with “have self respect and stop behaving so..differently rawr blarg graah!”
I don’t know if you noticed, but sexism and racism didn’t disappear when blacks and women showed ‘normal society’ they could behave and be a part of it. The bigotry just lessened to a point where they stopped marching.
The point of gay people banding together and demanding equal treatment of society is not to say “Hey society, we’re just like you! Please let us in!” Our message is “yeah, we’re different in a fundamental way, and it’s not ok to deny people basic human rights just because they’re different. It’s YOUR view which is wrong”
So I think it is you who is the problem, not the queen in the neon pink lycra tube top and sequen thong. Honestly, you are worse than the people who hate and oppose gay people openly because at least they know they hate gay people. You don’t even realize you missed the whole fucking point of the movement and are doing a disservice every time you cowtow to “normal” society by saying “hey you crazy homos, stop acting so weird so we can all feel ok with letting you be a part of normal, wholesome society!” That isn’t a victory. That’s a concession. That’s a defeat. That’s the straight community putting gayness itself in the closet by trying to normalize it, and that’s not what I’m fighting for.
So yeah, you shut up and march next to the flaming queens who are celebrating being who they are without the sexual censorship of society prevailing over them. They tolerate your bullshit from straight people for the entire other 99.9% of their lives and they shouldn’t have to hear it about an equal rights march.
